June Newsletter - "By the Sea!"

5/30/2013

The countdown is on…only 3 weeks of school left! It’s hard to believe how fast the months have passed us by! It seems like only yesterday we were playing in the snow! Now the sun is out, the flowers and trees are in full bloom and summer holidays are right around the corner!

To wrap up the school year, we thought it would be fitting to enter the summer season with the ever appropriate theme of “By The Sea!” The children will explore the wonderful world of sea life through creative arts, science and water play both indoors and outside is our play yard!  J

June 12th and 13th will be “Aloha Days” with slushy drinks!  We will also celebrate the June, July and August birthdays too!

June also brings with it a time for celebration! Riverside Park Nursery School’s graduation ceremonies are currently being planned, and it promises to be an emotional event! Parents…don’t forget your tissues! Save the dates: June 20th and 21st  !

* Please note that the last official days of nursery school are June20 and 21. *

Butterflies of May

Our science experiment on the life cycle of the Pink Lady Butterfly was amazing!   The children watched in wonderment as the little caterpillars grew into big caterpillars.  Within a couple of weeks, they attached themselves to the roof of the butterfly house and shed their last skins to become a chrysalis!  Pink Lady Butterflies emerged after the long May weekend and we released them in our play yard on May 30 & 31, cheering them on with our “good byes!”.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

1-      Before & After Care services will be provided during the month of May except for June 20 and 21, our Graduation Days.  Invoices will be provided on these days and we ask that you pay promptly.

2-      With warmer weather now upon us, it is important to take extra sun safety precautions! Please ensure that your child has a proper sun hat and sunscreen. We ask that sunscreen be applied before arriving at school.

3-      Please ensure that your child has proper indoor and outdoor footwear. “Flip flop” style shoes are not recommended as they can cause a falling/tripping hazard. Shoes should have a good rubber sole and straps or laces that keep the shoe on your child’s feet.

4-      The tricycles are now being used! If you would like your child to ride, please make sure to bring a proper fitting helmet. Helmet bins are labeled by class and are located outdoors. Please remember to label your child’s helmet clearly.

5-      Tuition receipts for January 2013 to June 2013 will be ready for pick up from your child’s file folder on the last day of school.

FAMILY FUN DAY

A reminder that Family Fun Day is coming up on Saturday, June 8th ! Come and join us for a wonderful day full of fun and games, picnic potluck and prizes! Get to know some of the other parents…and some of the new arrivals for the 2013-2014 school year! Rain or shine event!

RPNS GRADUATION CEREMONIES

Mark your calendars, book off work and bring your tissues!!! June 20th and 21st  are the scheduled Graduation ceremonies for the children. This is a very special event! These dates also mark the last days of school. (This is a good opportunity to go through our school’s Lost & Found and reclaim any items you may have forgotten! Remember to take all art work, helmets, toys, etc. home with you! Otherwise, these items will be donated to a local charity.)

Parents, come celebrate with us in recognition of your amazing children and all their scholastic accomplishments!  All family members welcome.  Kindly see the “Graduations Food Sign Up Sheet” posted in the hallway for food contributions.

National Capital Race Day

Saturday, August 3 at Mooney’s Bay.  As ‘Club of the Event’, RPNS is in need of volunteers to support the race day.  See our hallway display for more information and kindly encourage your family, friends and neighbours to participate in the races.  Donations to RPNS will go to our Building Fund.

Adieu!

The staff would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your ongoing support and commitment to Riverside Park Nursery School. We are so proud of our program and it’s you…the parents and families, who make all this possible! We have been blessed with yet another amazing school year, filled with fun and excitement!

We wish nothing but the best to all our departing families as your children venture on to bigger and brighter adventures! Kindergarten…here they come!

We look forward to seeing all our returning families again in the fall! Another new and exhilarating school year awaits you!

Lastly, thank you for entrusting your children into our care. As dedicated educators, we hope that we have made a positive and profound impact in your child’s life! Children grow and flourish so quickly, and we are honoured to have been a part of their special journey!

HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY SUMMER HOLIDAY!  J

Wishing you all continued success and happiness,

The Staff at RPNS - Paulette, Tina, Dulce, Janet, Jenna, Virginia, and Lisa

From Jenna and Janet: Toddler and Jr. Preschool

We are moving into the month of June, our last month of school until September. May was full of “bumpy” weather. Flowers bloomed early, with the hot beginning of May. We  had the water table and painting outside and moved into “summer” mode getting our out door drinking cups ready along with our big jug of water to keep us all hydrated while we play outside. Then, it snowed! We all dug out our boots and hats and mittens and played in fairly muddy conditions. Finally it feels that the weather may be a bit more stable and we are looking forward to lots of outdoor play in warm and sunny conditions.

Our theme for the month is Sea you Later. We have lots of sea creatures, sea shells and fishing rods with fish to catch, if we stay inside. When the weather is lovely we try to stay out as long as possible sometimes even having circle and snack time outside too!

Everyone (even those coming back next year) will participate in our graduation ceremony and group luncheon on June 20 for the Toddlers and June 21 for the Junior Preschoolers. It has been a wonderful year. Thanks so much for trusting us to work with your children.

Here is a picnic song to take us into summer.

Going on a Picnic

We’re going on a picnic; we’re leaving right away,

If it doesn’t rain we’ll stay all day.

Did, (child’s name) bring the (food name),

Yes (child’s name) brought the (food name),

We’re ready to go, Oh, we’re going on picnic; we’re leaving right away (repeat for number of children and food)

From Tina – Sr. Preschool

Coming soon!

From Dulce  – French Introduction – Sr. Preschool

The school year is coming to an end and the children are already talking about going to the “big school”. I will miss them; it was a great year! This month’s theme is “Sea” you later and we will learn about some ocean animals. Here is a chant that we will be singing.

Petit Poisson

Petit poisson, petit poisson,

Nage, nage, nage,

Oh non, il est mangé par une belle pieuvre…

Belle pieuvre, belle pieuvre,
