Happy New Year and best wishes to all of you for 2019! Looks like 2019 is going to be a very busy year with exciting projects!
Winter Outdoor Play
Outdoor play with plenty of fresh air keeps children healthy and active! We still play outside in winter; enjoying sledding, shovelling, making snow angels and snowmen. When the temperature dips below -25*C and it is very windy, we will stay indoors. Paulette checks the temperature at the Environment Canada Weather Line 613-998-3439. Kindly ensure that your children are dressed appropriately for the weather.
GO Funding from the province received in 2018 has given up the opportunity to create 5 new Junior Preschool spaces and up to 8 new 2Day Senior Preschool spaces. More children means the need for more staff, so we welcome Rena Kaplansky to the teaching team here at RPNS! As always, RPNS can boast that the staff here are experienced and dedicated to ensuring quality programs.
Increasing the hours of our core day is another way to create more access to our quality program for our families! So the GO Funding will be used to extend our core day by another half hour starting February 2019. The new core hours will be 8:30 am to 12:00 noon.
Reminder of change to Tuition Fee Payments
The GO Funding as also allowed us to make child care for affordable and thus the reduction to your monthly tuition fees effective January 2019. Parents of children attending our 2Day programs will see their fees reduced by $25 per month and parents of children attending 3Day programs will see their fees reduced by $35 per month. It will be $60 for 5Day attenders.
Tuition receipts will be prepared this month by our child care management system, Child Care Pro. The receipt will be sent to you via email from firstname.lastname@example.org February (check you spam box). The amount on the receipt covers tuition fees paid in 2018 (note: registration fees and activity fees are not part of tuitions)
Nursery School tuition receipts can be used for income tax purposes under Child Care. Keep your receipts as there is a $15 administration fee for additional receipt requests.
Thank you for your kind donations of toiletries, socks, underwear and books for the children of Annavale Headstart Nursery School.
Everyone had lots of fun decorating the gingerbread houses on Dec. 18 and 19 with help from some volunteer parents (thank you!). Thorncliffe Place Retirement Home warmly welcomed the little houses and they brought plenty of cheer for the seniors.
Our Christmas Concerts and Parties were successfully fun due to the efforts and talents of the children, teachers and parents who provided food and applause! A big “Thank You!” to Santa who took the time out of his busy schedule to visit us.
A big thank you to Bob Plourde who donated all the little wooden vehicles that we distributed by Santa at our parties. Bob had decided to close up his wood work shop last summer and wanted to find good homes for his handiworks.
Would you like to help out in your child’s classroom? We could certainly use an extra set of hands on special activity days. See the Classroom Buddy Sign-Up Calendar in the hall or send us an email. Note that parent volunteers need a Criminal Reference Check on file at RPNS.
Need some alone time with your partner after the busy holiday season or a Valentine dinner? Reserve you space for our next date night on Friday, Feb. 15 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Parents must register their children and pre pay by Feb. 12 (your space will only be guaranteed with your pre- payment!).
New Building Project
We are very, very excited to announce that the city of Ottawa and the province of Ontario approved our Capital Funding Application! This means that we will receive funding for our new building project with an anticipated doors open date of December 2020.
RPNS has been working at relocating to a new building since I started working here in 2006. Ten years ago, the then board of directors mandated that this project be part of the vision for RPNS and the River Ward community. A “New Building Sub-Committee” was established 2 years ago and worked diligently towards this goal. I cannot thank enough the following committee members who spent countless volunteer hours working on obtaining funding for this project: Donyah Farhat, Crystal McConkey, Donna Bueckert, Melinda Assaf and Kate Cathrae. Many thanks as well to the current RPNS Board of Directors and past ones that supported this initiative.
We look forward to working with Canoe Bay Development, Andrew Fleck Children’s Services and Gowling WLG law firm during the next 2 years to complete this project. Now let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work!
