JUNE 2015 at RIVERSIDE PARK NURSERY SCHOOL
After such a long, cold winter it seems that our spring has gone by too quickly and our final month of the school year is upon us!
We plan on playing outside in our beautiful play yard as much as possible before the end of our school year. Be sure to check out our “Calendar of Events” posted here on our website as a reminder of our June activities.
June 9th and 10th will be “Aloha Days” with slushy drinks! We will celebrate the June, July and August birthdays too!
June also brings with it a time for celebration! Riverside Park Nursery School’s graduation ceremonies are currently being planned, and it promises to be an emotional event! Parents…don’t forget your tissues! Save the dates: June 18th and 19th !
* Please note that the last official days of nursery school are June 18 and 19. *
Riverside Churches of Ottawa Bathroom Renovations
Our landlords, the Riverside Churches of Ottawa, are renovating the washrooms of the church starting on June 20, 2015. They expect the work to be completed by mid to late August. This project will provide a fully accessible handicap washroom, more toilets and sinks in the women’s washroom (the one we use for the nursery school children) and an additional urinal in the men’s washroom.
The nursery school will be inaccessible and there will be no nursery school staff at our program after June 19. So, it is imperative to ensure you have collected all your child’s belongings by this date. Paulette will answer emails throughout the summer.
Registration Packages and Payments
Kindly ensure that Paulette has received your child’s registration package for the 2015-2016 school year with required payments. Outstanding amounts for Before & After Care need to be received by June 19.
1- Before & After Care services will be provided during the month of June except for June 18 and 19, our Graduation Days. Invoices will be provided on Friday, June 12 for Before & After Care services used up to that point in time. Should you require the services on June 15, 16 or 17, you must pay per day (exact cash or cheque only). Please pay promptly.
2- With warmer weather now upon us, it is important to take extra sun safety precautions! Please ensure that your child has a proper sun hat and sunscreen. We ask that sunscreen be applied before arriving at school. For toddlers who play outside at 11:00 pm, we will apply Green Beaver Kids Spray prior to outdoor play. Many thanks to Melinda Assaf from Kardish Foods for supplying RPNS with Green Beaver sunscreen. See website for info on this sunscreen:
3- Please ensure that your child has proper indoor and outdoor footwear. “Flip flop” style shoes are not recommended as they can cause a falling/tripping hazard. Shoes should have a good rubber sole and straps or laces that keep the shoe on your child’s feet.
4- The tricycles are now being used! If you would like your child to ride, please make sure to bring a proper fitting helmet. Helmet bins are labeled by class and are located outdoors. Please remember to label your child’s helmet clearly.
5- Tuition receipts for January 2015 to June 2015 will be emailed to you in January 2016.
FAMILY FUN DAY
A reminder that Family Fun Day is coming up on Saturday, June 6th! Come and join us for a wonderful day full of fun and games, picnic potluck and prizes! Get to know some of the other parents…and some of the new arrivals for the 2015-2016 school year! Rain or shine event! Wear your RPNS t-shirts J
RPNS GRADUATION CEREMONIES
Mark your calendars, book off work and bring your tissues!!! June 18th and 19th are the scheduled Graduation ceremonies for the children. This is a very special event! These dates also mark the last days of school. (This is a good opportunity to go through our school’s Lost & Found and reclaim any items you may have forgotten! Remember to take all art work, helmets, toys, etc. home with you! Otherwise, these items will be donated to a local charity.)
Parents, come celebrate with us in recognition of your amazing children and all their scholastic accomplishments! All family members welcome. Kindly see the “Graduations Food Sign Up Sheet” posted in the hallway for food contributions.
May 17 Fireworks Day at Mooney’s Bay Park
Many thanks to Anne Pilon, coordinator, and our parent volunteers for their tremendous work to make this event a success. Our children’s activities zone and face painting stations were a great hit! This event was terrific PR for our nursery school program and it was nice to meet so many families from the Riverside Park community.
Mini Spartan Week at RPNS!
In total with our own “Mini Spartan Week” we collected $1465!!! Wow!!! All donations went to our Building Fund. Thank you so much for your generosity.
But mostly, ‘high fives’ for our little Mini Spartan Ambassadors who diligently completed the RPNS race track (many times) during our Mini Spartan Week. The smile of the faces of the children when they received their Mini Spartan Medals says it all!
RPNS Building Project
A committee was struck last fall comprised of very determined individuals with the goal of our new building project coming to fruition in September 2017! A brainstorming session with Craig Gauthier http://hkstrategies.ca/expert/craig-gauthier/ got our committee empowered and motivated to ensure that RPNS can meet the needs of families in this community. With the closures of Tupper Tots and St. Elias Child Care this past year, we envision a new building located on the Riverside Churches of Ottawa property that would house both nursery school and full day child care programs.
Many thanks to all our families that supported our Building Fund with generous donations to our Giving Tree and participating in fundraisers such as Big Foot Books, Date Nights, Mini Spartan Race Week, Samko & Miko Toy Sale, Tubes & Jujubes Day, bouncy castle rentals, United Way and RPNS T-shirt sales.
The staff would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your ongoing support and commitment to Riverside Park Nursery School. We are so proud of our program and it’s you…the parents and families, who make all this possible! We have been blessed with yet another amazing school year, filled with fun and excitement!
Our toddler teacher, Lisa Rocheleau, will be returning this September in a full time capacity and will teach the Junior Preschool as well. Therefore, Jenna Devine will be leaving RPNS to pursue other endeavors. We wish Jenna all the best!
All the best to our departing families as your children venture on to bigger and brighter experiences! Kindergarten…here they come!
We look forward to seeing all our returning families again in the fall! Another new and exhilarating school year awaits you!
Lastly, thank you for entrusting your children into our care. As dedicated educators, we hope that we have made a positive and profound impact in your child’s life! Children grow and flourish so quickly, and we are honoured to have been a part of their special journey!
HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY SUMMER HOLIDAY! J
Wishing you all continued success and happiness,
The Staff at RPNS
Paulette, Tina, Dulce, Janet, Jenna, Lisa, Virginia and Lyn
