2015-2016 RPNS REGISTRATION NIGHT ~ Wed. March 25 7:00 pm
New families to the school are encouraged to formally register their children for our next school year. Our French Introduction classes fill quickly, so spread the word!
Families that wish to bring in Valentine cards for their child’s friends may do so (no candy please). Kindly just address the cards “To my friend” (or no address at all) instead of individual students names. This helps speed up the process of hand delivering cards (a very nice social activity for the children). We will celebrate Valentine’s Day and February Birthday Celebrations with cake on Feb.11 & Feb.12
February Special Events!

Carpediem Photography will be here starting at 9:00 am on Feb. 4 & 5 to take individual and class photos of the children. There is no sitting fee and parents will receive the proofs. Kindly see Paulette to indicate your interest. Note: there is no photo retake day here at RPNS but arrangements can be made at the Carpediem Photography location. Bring your SMILES!
Building our social network!
Remember to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter! RPNS is trying to expand its network, so kindly let tell all your contacts to “like” us!
New Pets at RPNS!
Little Acorn Early Learning Centre here in Ottawa kindly donated three hermit crabs to RPNS. The children are really excited about our new pets and have named them Speedy (cause he is very fast); Mousie (cause she lives in a mouse grey shell) and Big Fella (cause he is really big!). The children are learning how to take care of them; how to gently hold them and how they live in their habitat.
FAMILY DAY Monday, Feb.16
The nursery school will be closed on Feb.16 in recognition of Family Day. We wish all families a wonderful day! Feel free to send us photos of what your family did on Feb.17.
Junior Preschool and Toddler Newsletter
From Janet, Jenna and Lisa
The January wind kept the Toddlers inside for the whole month! The Juniors were able to get out about 3 Fridays in a row, but our outdoor experiences have certainly been limited due to the very cold weather conditions. Hopefully February will give us some milder days so that we can all enjoy the natural world that our yard provides.
The fossils at our science table revealed some interesting learning. The fossils were accompanied with a brush to "clean" the fossil in the rock, and an adult book about fossils. Many children showed us the "shells" in the fossil book that represented the shells that were our fossilized rocks. They also extended their observations by relating this to the live snails that are in a terrarium that sits on the same science table. It is very exciting for educators to observe children using play materials in appropriate and interesting ways.
February starts off with Groundhog Day which helps us introduce the concept of shadows. We will have a "Groundhog Box” in our Gross Motor area, a song that helps the "groundhog, look around" and a friend with a flashlight that helps the "groundhog" see its shadow, or not, depending on whether the flashlight is on or off.
We will continue throughout the month with Mondrian art work, Valentines and the wonderful festival of Chinese New Year which begins on February 19.
The following song is the one we use to "help" the groundhog come out and look around.
The Groundhog Song ( tune: I'm a Little Teapot)
Here's a little Groundhog, fury and brown,
He's coming up to look around,
If he sees his shadow, down he'll go,
Six more weeks of winter,
French Senior Preschool

Celebrations a-plenty this month! First, Chinese New Year: 2015 is the year of the Sheep, and of course, Valentine’s Day! We will celebrate both. (We like to Party!)
Our song this month is dedicated to friendship and being someone’s special Valentine. We will make it into a singing game (a favourite at circle time!)
This is so very adorable to watch!
