Coming up this SPRING at RPNS!
Hello everyone! Spring is here and every spring, the children at Riverside Park Nursery School participate in the Hop a thon for Muscular Dystrophy. This year the children will be hopping on April 25th and 26th. Along with the Hop a thon, we will have our Annual Pyjama Day. The children and (duty parents) are welcome to wear their pyjamas and bring in a favorite stuffed animal to “hop” with. Please check your child’s file for pledge forms. Collecting pledges is completely voluntary and all proceeds go to Muscular Dystrophy of Canada.
Back packs should be at school every day and should contain the following items:
· Extra pants and shirts and underwear and socks!
· Diapers, pull ups, wipes and a change pad
· Indoor shoes
· Outdoor clothing, especially splash pants and rubber boots!
Show and Share
Show and Share is on April 4th and 5th for all the groups. Please provide an item that is labelled with your child’s name. Make it something that your child can tell us a little about. Just a few words is all it takes to provide your child with enough confidence to speak in front of a group!
Birthday Snack Days will be on April 15th and 16th!
2013-2014 School Year Registration:
Should you wish that your child return to RPNS next school year, see Paulette asap to reserve your spot!
As a cooperative nursery school, all parents are required to volunteer their time for special events and housekeeping duties (on top of scheduled duty days). Many thanks to the dedicated families that have helped out in various ways so far this year. For those of you who have not had any opportunity to contribute thus far, we have two major events coming up that require many volunteers: (check the sign-up sheets posted in our hallways)
Donations of small toys and prizes: we will need lots of small toys (new or gently used) for prizes on Family Fun Day. Drop them off in the labelled box by the Communication Table.
Kleenex Donations: we are running low on tissues due to little running noses!
PARENT ~ TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Parents that are interested in discussing their child’s progress and development may do so during the month of MAY. A sign-up sheet will be posted at the end of April.
You certainly don’t want to miss your child’s graduation, so here are the dates to put on your calendars and in your Blackberries:
~ Toddler and 2Day Preschool Classes will graduate on Thursday, June 20
~ Junior and Senior Preschool Classes will graduate on Friday, June 21
The RIVERSIDE CHURCHES OF OTTAWA have kindly requested that parents do not let their children climb the PINE TREE located at the walkway to the entrance of the nursery school. Thank you for your cooperation!
New Staff Member!
Jenna Devine, RECE, is joining the teaching team here at RPNS. Jenna will be teaching the Junior Preschool class alongside Janet clayton.
We will miss Lisa Rocheleau very much but can hardly wait until she visits us with her new little “show & share”. All the best to you, Lisa!

April 2013 Newsletter
We have had fun in our snowy playground over the past months. We piled the snow and made people, furniture and dinosaurs. We had lots of sledding on the hill and digging with shovels. We now look forward to warmer days and melting snow which will reveal our great bike path, green grass and spring flowers. Hopefully, we will soon put away the cumbersome snow gear and be able to wear lighter spring clothing!
Inside we have some changes too. Paulette and Janet will work together on Toddler days and Jenna and Janet will be together on Junior Preschool days. Lisa is due to have her baby, April 7. We wish her and husband Frank all wonderful thoughts as they move into the world of parenthood.
Our theme for April is Rescue 911. The fire hoses and hats are hanging up in the dramatic area and lots of emergency vehicles are lined up on the shelves in the floor toy and block area. Our circles will include fire safety tips such as; “stop drop and roll” if fire gets on your clothes and “crawl low under smoke” practice for getting out of the house if a fire should occur. Here is a fun action song that goes with this theme.
I’m a little Firefighter (tune little teapot)
I’m a little firefighter on the go, (stand with hands on hips)
Here is my hat and here is my hose, (touch head, pretend hose is in hand)
When I see a fire, (put fingers around eyes like binoculars)
Then I shout, “Turn on the water and put the fire out!” (pretend to use hose)
“Pshshsh” (the water sound)
From Tina – Sr. Preschool
Welcome to April!
The children are very excited with our Rescue 911 theme this month. We will be doing some basic Fire Safety at circle time. They will learn to “Crawl low under smoke” and to “Stop! Drop and Roll”. We will talk about smoke detectors, checking the door for heat, and we will practise yelling for HELP! (Sorry).
The month is also filled with music and dancing. Look for the Special events: there are many!
Jessica will be with us for the entire month and she will be sliding into the leadership role very soon. Stay tuned.
My song for April is called “Fire, Fire, Fire, Fire!”
Fire, fire, fire, fire hear the whistle blowing.
Fire, fire, fire, fire: everbody’s going.
Hoist the ladder, squirt the hose, with a ch,ch,ch,ch, out the fire goes!
Enjoy and play safe!
From Dulce – French Introduction – Sr. Preschool
Bonjour, I hope everyone had a wonderful and rested long weekend. This month’s theme is Rescue 911. Now that the warm weather is fast approaching, please ensure the children come dressed to play comfortably in the yard (splash pants and rain boots). Here is a song that we will be learning.
