Coming up this SPRING at RPNS!
Hello everyone! Spring is supposedly here…we saw crocuses in our play yard on March 26 peeking out from the snow! Let’s hope all the snow melts quickly.
Traditionally, RPNS has participated in the Hop a thon for Muscular Dystrophy, raising thousands of dollars over the past several years (last year we raised $1800). This year, we have decided to focus our fundraising efforts on another important charity….our own RPNS BUILDING FUND! Our nursery school is “Club of the Event” for the May 17 Capital Classic Race Day with events for children and adults. Registrants can get sponsors and pledges for their race participation online, directing it towards the RPNS Building Fund. Check out the Race Day Display in our hallway to see who is participating in the May 17 Race from RPNS (children and parents alike) and sponsor them! The Ryan Wylie Kids Race is for children aged 1 to 11 years with parents welcome to run, walk, totter or stroll beside their children (strollers allowed too). A fun way for the whole family to participate!
See our home page for more details and register today!
Mini Spartans Race Week at RPNS!
To promote healthy active living for the children, we will be holding a training week here at the nursery school from May 12 to 16 with daily obstacle courses. Our ‘Mini Spartans’ will be running, jumping, hopping , balancing and crawling around fun obstacles both indoors and outdoors! Each child will have a pledge form and we ask that you get family, friends, neighbours and co-workers to sponsor your child as ‘Mini Spartan’ Ambassadors for healthy active living.(all proceeds to the RPNS Building Fund)
Please check your child’s file for pledge forms.
Back packs should be at school every day and should contain the following items:
· Extra pants and shirts and underwear and socks!
· Diapers, pull ups, wipes and a change pad
· Indoor shoes
· Outdoor clothing, especially splash suits/pants and rubber boots!
Show and Share
Show and Share is on April 3rd and 4th for all the groups. Please provide an item that is labelled with your child’s name. Make it something that your child can tell us a little about. Just a few words is all it takes to provide your child with enough confidence to speak in front of a group!
2014-2015 School Year Registration:
Our Open House Week was well attended as was our March 24 Registration Night. There are a number of spaces available for September 2014 in all classes, so kindly spread the word to your family, friends, neighbours and colleagues!
As a cooperative nursery school, all parents are required to volunteer their time for special events and housekeeping duties (on top of scheduled duty days). Many thanks to the dedicated families that have helped out in various ways so far this year. For those of you who have not had any opportunity to contribute thus far, we have two major events coming up that require many volunteers:
PARENT ~ TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Parents that are interested in discussing their child’s progress and development may do so beginning April 22 and ending May 16. A sign-up sheet will be posted in the hallway.
You certainly don’t want to miss your child’s graduation, so here are the dates to put on your calendars and in your Blackberries:
~ Toddler and 2Day Preschool Classes will graduate on Thursday, June 19
~ Junior and Senior Preschool Classes will graduate on Friday, June 20
From Janet and Jenna: Toddler and Jr. Preschool
RPNS’s Jr preschool and toddler groups enjoyed a successful March! We hope that all our families enjoyed a fun and restful March Break together and we were happy to see all the children back!
In the various areas of our room, we learned about both Canadian and African Animals (how to take care of them, the sounds they make, how they live etc.). The children seemed to really enjoy stomping their feet like elephants to our regular ‘Marching feet’ song. It is lucky we don’t have neighbours in the basement.
This was one of the first times in many years that we have been at school for St. Patricks’ Day (it usually falls during the week of March Break). We had a chance to talk about how it is celebrated, for example, the practice of wearing green on the day.
March was so cold that we had to spend a lot of time indoors. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that April will bring warmer temperatures. We look forward to the children being outdoors as much as possible for natural exploration. Spring is a wonder filled time with plants beginning to grow, and birds making nests.
Our theme for April is: “Spring Wonders by the Pond”. We will be talking about tadpoles and frogs, worms and ducklings; that sometimes went up walking across the road from the river and into our playground!
We will be singing this song among others:
Five Green and speckled Frogs
Five green and speckled frogs,
Sat on a speckled log, eating some most delicious bugs (yum, yum).
One jumped into the pool where it was nice and cool,
Now there are 4 green speckled frogs (glub, glub or ribbit, ribbit).
(Continue with 4, 3 and d 2 then)
One green and speckled frog
Sat on a speckled log, eating some most delicious bugs (yum, yum)
One jumped into the pool where it was nice and cool,
Now there are no green speckled frogs (glub, glub or ribbit, ribbit)

Hello All! March has disappeared! I‘m not sure where it went but I think the snow has something to do with it!
In April we will be celebrating Easter and it is only fitting we learn a fun song to go with it:
5 Easter Rabbits (finger play)
Five Easter rabbits standing by the door,
One hopped away, and then there were four.
Four Easter rabbits standing near a tree,
One hopped away, and then there were three.
Three Easter rabbits looking at you,
One hopped away, and then there were two.
Two Easter rabbits enjoying the sun,
One hopped away, and then there was one.
One Easter rabbit sitting all alone,
He hopped away, and then there were none.
I think that we are ready to try the game “Bingo” at circle time. We will start with colour and shape bingo and see how it goes.
We will also be looking at “Lifecycles” with relation to Frogs and plants. During this time, we will be wishing the snow away!
It is Springtime (sung to London bridges)
Leaves are growing (on the trees x3)
Leaves are growing on the trees,
It is springtime.
All the grass is turning green……
See the birdie build their nests…….
Watch the flowers start to grow…….
Come on Spring! We are ready for you.
